Matutinal

Michael Lee Rattigan

Crow on the wind says

guard your words today

Birds wheel out and gather

rain doesn't miss a leaf

A warning call seeds the air

branches empty, dendritic

The world gasps out

gold through the grey

Wind curls a wing

a leaf just dropped

against a siren's repeated sound.
